Day 4 - May 8 - Bye Bye Serbia

Reflections on Serbia.

Curious, friendly and kind people, quiet, shuttered villages and drivers that honk to say hello. Flat roads and beautiful farms and orchards and vineyards. Quite a gem.

The bike route took us through a nature reserve, not open to cars, and technically in Croatia (shhhhhh we didn't see any border guards 😉). As we approached the Reserve it was not looking inviting...

The fence was closed so we slipped through the small door off to the left and took on the dirt path for about 15. It was so quiet. We saw only 5 other people, no cyclists, no cars, one deer...

Although the forecast was for rain we had none and were thankful for the dry ride, but there was some dust for sure.

It was interesting to cross the border into Hungary. They waved us to the front of the line and let us through with no issues, but strangely once we arrived in Hungary the first 10 vehicles we passed were all (armed) boarder patrol police.  We realized we haven't heard or read world news for a week now. Perhaps tensions are high?

The embankment in Hungary is paved and smooth, the wind was strong at times but the riding was easy and safe.  We have yet to meet another couple touring.

Approaching Mohacs the Ride with GPS navigation said "turn right in 500 m"

But it neglected to say "get on the ferry first"! 🤣🤣🤣

So now we have actually cycled ON the Danube!

Great way to spend Marc's birthday today ☺️
