Breakfast was wonderful.
Heinz was down helping clean our bike chains at 7:15, and Andre was getting the coffee on. We had a hearty breakfast of great conversation and cute kids.
Heinz helped with an alternate route to avoid the first big hill. I love when a local expert helps "oh no that hill is unnecessary, not a pretty view here is a better route. No need for that hill "
So much mountain beauty in every direction today. We climbed and climbed and went through the Walm au Schober Pass. Through a mountain pass! How cool is that? 875 meters above sea level.Tough climb at the end of the day and my phone was buzzing that we were off route. UGH. But we were on the right road and we made it to a great place to stay.
Did I mention today is a national holiday in Austria? Andre mentioned it at breakfast but that didn't give us much time to prepare. No shops are open. No restaurants are open. Their advice - go to a gas station.
We found a restaurant open mid day and went in and asked to buy two buns 🤔 They were unsure but relented and we had our salami sandwiches for lunch.
It was a long tough day so we just wanted to get to our final destination. Upon arrival there were notes on the doors "Fam Solby". They were waiting for us to arrive so they could get the heck home. So they quickly showed us our room and we asked about food..... No. Nothing open. Maybe a pizzeria many kms away 😳
Marc was able to ask if there was any food in the (closed) restaurant kitchen we could have. To make in our room. After a pause, the lovely reception last said she would make us a salad and bring it to our room. Best. Salad. Ever!!
Another 87 kms behind us.

Wow, that was a big day. Thank goodness for the salad!
