Woke up to a cool 7 degrees in Lachtal this morning. It is surprising how much cooler it is "at altitude". We were at about 1500 m. We drove down to the first lovely little village and could feel +5 degrees at least.
A breakfast of butter and butter croissants! In a bakery in a building that must have had 3 foot thick walls. Everything was built so well, so solid. It has stood for centuries and yet it feels fresh and new inside. Beautifully decorated and full of the ladies of the village.
A quick trip to the Puch Museum. Frank is the perfect tour guide (they should hire him!). And he has some good stories to go with the bikes and cars and engines on display. We even got to see Marc's old scooter.
Next stop, the Red Bull Racing Ring. Today was a Porsche test drive day. No crowds, but you could feel the speed and excitement of racing as we looked out on the track that curves up onto the mountain and back.
Dinner was another Austrian meal of Goulash and Radlers (we really need to get back on our bikes!)
And now back to the reality of our cycling adventure. Frank and Natalie dropped us back in Leoben where our bikes have been watched over by a Warm Showers host Heinz. We returned in time for his son's second birthday party that involved balloons and rainbows!
Marcus with his new toy car.
Tomorrow we ride again.
Sounds like a great few days- no bikes, good food, warm hospitality and some history lessons…. I do remember stealing that red Puch and scooting around the block ( in my youth!)- was very cool!
