Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses. And that's just what we have done. A day off and a walking tour of Graz
The buildings date back to the 1100's and the history is rich. We could have taken the 206 steps up, but we have a few climbs facing us this week.
We actually took the "glass lift" to the Schlossberg, which goes within the rock to the top to see the Clock Tower (on time since 1712) and wandered through the old fortress, the Stable Bastion, and the spectacular views.
The Chinese Pavilion (built in 1890).
The view of Graz
And a lovely walk back down.
The streets are lines with gorgeous 4 storey buildings forming blocks, with the interiors housing beautiful gardens, a place for the kids and pets to play, a backyard for the apartments. We enjoyed dinner on our terrace overlooking the interior green space.
The old walls of the city still stand, with incredible huge old doors.
And the famous double spiral staircase (very Harry Potter!)
We had a lovely evening Saturday and a full day Sunday to wander and take in the history.
The Flying Dutchman is playing at the Opera House. We went for the Opera Cafe instead.
Enjoying this beautiful historic city, so quiet on a Sunday in May. And yet so vibrant as well
Thanks for taking us along on this incredible journey, love, Duff
