Day 24 - May 28 - Using the rain gear

There have been moments, packing our panniers day after day, and thinking why did we bring all this gear?  Gear for warm days, cold days and wet days. Well today we answered that question!

10 degrees, and staying there, and rain, rain, rain. So happy to have the gear and the layers today.

We waited for a bit of a break in the showers taking shelter in the empty tent, and sheltering our panniers in the rain flaps.

And then we took advantage of a break in the rain, so happy to have the right gear.  A final goodbye to the lovely lady who runs the campsite and the day started.

We left the campsite and the lake, after a warm coffee and chocolate croissant at the cafe by the lake ☺️ and climbed out of the lake valley. We got warm climbing, but that didn't last long.

A quick stop in Bad Aussee - oh my it is in a VALLEY.  That was a long way down (and cold!) to a pretty little town having an Austrian celebration, with villagers dressed the part and the pretzel truck ready to fill the belly. The rain made it a bit less festive, but still fun to feel the energy and see the lederhosen and the women in traditional dresses.

And off we headed to Obertraun. Heart pumping climbs (getting hot) and then chilly descents. So happy to have layers. Tried to catch a shot of Marc but he was travelling quite fast (he is a wee speck down the hill).

(A very good pee stop๐Ÿ˜‰)

The final few kilometers were heart stopping descent doing a 23% down in the wet and cold ๐Ÿ˜ณbut the brakes worked perfectly and the hands survived the stress of the constant braking.

All good. We made it.  Down to some lovely hiking trails, and lunch at the pizzeria and bowling alley (really). Heading back from lunch a chicken crossed the road in front of us.

We don't know why.

๐Ÿ˜‰

We have a cozy place to stay the night. More rain tomorrow but we will start the day warm and dry ๐Ÿ˜Š.

    1. Ya today too. I think the rain gear settup is pretty good
It's a little hard to navigate when you don't have the phone on the handlebars

  2. The upside of rain: it makes you glad you packed the rain gear.
