Day 2 - May 6 - Cobblestones, Castles and Community

We woke up in our tent pitched between a fig tree and an apple tree, just outside the Fruska Goro National Park. The birds were chirping (all night it seemed) and we were ready to descend to Novi Sad.

So much history along the way, with monuments and churches and so many beautiful trees.

Petrovaradin Fortress sits upon a high rock overlooking Novi Sad. With a cobblestone road UP and DOWN it was quite a challenge... You know when it is so bumpy your bell keeps ringing itself - ya.

Novi Sad is the European Cultural Center with an impressive museum presented in darkened rooms with black walls. Very striking, telling the story of this city of tragedy and triumph.

And then we rode away. Saying good bye to Dusan, our amazing host and guide. Imagine we had never met and now we will forever remember Belgrade to Novi Sad and all its history and beauty. What a gift.
And yet before we parted ways, he arranged another cycling friend, Ivan, to meet us on Euro Velo 6 and rode us to Mladonova.

Upon arrival at out reservation we found a welcoming host, family and friends celebrating the patron saint of watching over your home George, and as we have found in Serbia, we were immediately welcomed and fed. The cabbage rolls were absolutely amazing. Best ever. What a perfect end to day 2. (photo with our host, Stanka, left and the Mayor of the town on the right)

Today was a day of new friends who may live a world away, but today made us feel right at home.
