We encountered some construction along our route, but we were able to ride car-free and then walk through and around the holes and gravel and mighty machines. It slowed us down a little.
Not kidding. This is what we came to next, the third Route Barree. But we asked in the little shop on the corner and while the employee said the bridge is closed, the other shopper said just go right and you can cross....
So then we went right...
But not the right right, so we once again got local advice
Bye bye closed roads, we have to make some kilometers!!
The rest of the route was lovely, through small towns, on quiet roads. We got some speed up with a tail wind for the last hour or so and got in a good day of riding.
And after all the Barree, we rode for many flat kilometers through fields of grains. We felt a bit like we were in the Prairies.
If you zoom in you see the long bridge / walkway across the marsh to the beach (plage)
And lovely poppies. As always.
We ended up in La Tranche-sur-mer tonight, camping at the Viex Moulin (The Old Mill - another reference to home 😉).
A good day. We felt strong and made good mileage. And then relaxed with a beer and (sort of) chips at the town square (see cute puppy in the bicycle side car!) before groceries and dinner.
Another day done.
Day 20.
So basically half way.
So impressed with your ability to be flexible, adapt and find your way with these little diversions. The + with this type of travel = seeing how capable you are!
ReplyDeleteThe very quiet shuttered villages will be not be so quite in August, that is when the French all flick to the countryside or seaside. Good time to cycle before the great migration lol.
ReplyDeleteN.
There sure has been a lot of detours and route changes the past few days - well done guys!
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on your blog again - I've been distracted planning our own routes on Michigan! Some bridge challenges, but wow you guys are making good kms on this flat part of your route!
