Flat. That is what we dreamed of in the Pyrenees, and today that dream came true. Flat, straight, paved bike path. For almost 80 kms.
The path goes through the Medoc Parc. It is a controlled forest. Neatly planted rows of towering pines, and then fields of recent (controlled?) burned forest, and piles of logs. Interesting. The ferns are first to grow back in the burned area making an interesting mix of black and green. I suspect they burn the forests to get rid of the many small branches that the pines grow, the logging just wants those pine trunks.
The burned portions.
And the logs
The balance of the ride was just flat and easy path. We did encounter many cyclists today, roadies, families, and a few touring peeps as well. Even one mom riding on a small electric toy car with her son, and their dog running along beside. 🥰
The path supports cyclists with repair stations and even water! No toilets of course.. but water 😄
And then just more path, more path, more path...
It made for a good, faster ride today, but of course what happens is you have to slow down every time you cross a road. This is what the speed chart looks on a day like today.
We are settled into our camping space at "the edge of the forest camping",
and enjoying another delicious camping dinner care of chef Marc.
