Day off the bikes!
What a beautiful old city this is.
We have a very nice and helpful Pension owner, Jon (Juan), who helped make us a reservation for dinner last night and another one for lunch today. We were thankful for the tables and chairs, those with no reservations stand at the bar and eat.
San Sebastian is known for its food, so we are very happy here!
Breakfast of the region: Pastel Basquo
First stop - the train station to do reconnaissance for tomorrow's journey. Had a lovely ticket agent help us, and we feel good about it...
The walking tour included the Cathedral, and the charming streets of the old city.
The beach is quite stunning, even with a strong westerly coming right across the Atlantic. There were some people in swimming 🥶, but not many for sure. Mostly the dogs were enjoying the beach.
The old streets are narrow and pedestrian (mostly), with little shops for tourists and locals.
This square was used for bull fighting, with the windows being sold as viewing seats.
And the many beautiful buildings, all only about 5 stories, with striking balconies of wrought iron design and gargoyles watching over you.
And then the highlight of the day LUNCH!!
Bodega Donostiarra
The table beside us showed us how to pour the local Cider, note the three glasses lined up on the table (blue line) and the very high pouring (green arrow)! They only pour about 2 inches in each glass, do a cheers and drink it. And then a few minutes later they do it all over again! So fun. They shared a glass with us 🥰
Walking back home from the restaurant we took the same route we cycled yesterday. It was so much prettier this time, with a full belly, not exhausted, and not raining.
Wow that city is so beautiful, my mouth was watering with all that delicious looking food.
