Day 12 - Climbing to Biarritz

Wow. That was a lot of climbing. Almost 1000 m. Seriously. I mean yes the views are nice from the top but ouch, these were some tough hills.

We woke up to pouring rain but we were at a bed and BREAKFAST so we enjoyed 5 different kinds of bread 🥰, croissant, choclatine (NOT pain au chocolat, don't be insulting!) homemade yogurt and coffee with warmed milk. Served to us.

And our lovely host chatted with us at length about Canada as her daughter is in Montreal and St Johns Nfld!
And then we set out. Bye bye BnB

Hello hills.

And interesting sheep. (It's about those horns!😳)

We climbed through towns and back roads and we stopped to smell the roses (ok, to catch our breath but the roses were also nice).

Yes some great views, and pretty little Basque villages of white houses with coloured shutters (mostly closed).

Marc took this video to show the beauty that surrounds us.

Hope that link works!

We had company at our brief lunch stop, but the horses were not impressed with another baguette sandwich, and would have preferred sugar cubes, they said.

The rain was on and off. We were cold and then hot and then cold, and then hot.  It was just one of those days. But we made it to "Eden", the name of our campground, and indeed there is a pool, a big water slide, warm (ish) shower and a bar and a restaurant.  We are happy.

Crazy climbing day. Honestly, crossing the Alps last year was easier!
