Day 17 started out sunny and warm and we headed for Brieuc, not knowing it was such a big city. We had a cool bike lane beside a highway, with a very big and safe concrete barrier and we took that across our first big bridge of the day.
I had a wee fall on the cobblestoned streets of the city, and a wonderful woman appeared out of nowhere and helped me up. She was so sweet. I am fine. I think panniers sort of act as air bags, they totally break your fall.
Even though I wasn't hurt, we still stopped for a treat to "shake it off". Freshly made waffle, house made glace, and amazing chocolate sauce. The bruised elbow is worth it!
It was not a day for anyone afraid of heights. But we were thankful for the bridges. We crossed 3 different valleys on very high bridges - not for cars, but perfect for bikes. Much better than up and down.
There were a few wrong turns and route barrees but mostly it was smooth cycling all day, in the sunshine (and dark shady tunnels of trees).
We were more inland most of the day but as we climbed the hill and turned into our campground our view was this beautiful bay. Cap d'Erquy. We will explore it tomorrow.
Quick backtrack to last night. After I posted we went for a walk out to Pointe de Pordic and enjoyed the view. A very cool engraved slate map was there to help identify where we were and what we were looking at. Looking straight out, Jersey!
Another 50k on Strava and not so much climbing at 468. Perhaps we are out of the steep area?!
We are joining some other campers and watching the Euro Cup game tonight. France is playing and the excitement is real!
Ole, ole ole, ole!
Sleep well.
Another great day and happy that I bruised elbow was the only bad part. Love, mom.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Mom!!
DeleteI had to take a closer look at that blocked off route… they look like pallets , maybe a fence- looks pretty fancy to block the route???? Too bad about the tumble…. Couldn’t help but think…. Did Marc just keep on going??😂😂 When you said a lady popped out to help- I was like maybe Marc was looking for a baguette? Glad you are getting some better weather- the sunshine must make all the difference. Lots of soccer to be watched…. And then there’s some
ReplyDeletepretty exciting hockey on at the moment…… and get ready for an F1 weekend… you’ll have to plan some time for that one!🏎️
Lots of soccer watched, no scoring 😳
DeleteOle ole ole… meanwhile here it is Oil, oil, oil. The Oilers have come back and made it a 3-3 series. Big hockey drama.
ReplyDeleteGlad your tumble wasn’t too bad (and that it warranted a stop for tasty treats). Ride on!
Go Oilers Go!!
ReplyDeleteDamn those cobblestones. You may need to add more Croissants in your panniers to help with these situations.
