June 17 - Day 13 - Tour de Bretagne

Honk Honk Honk

The Boulangerie truck is here!

Yes. The baker makes a special delivery to the campsite each morning at 9:10. Good morning.

Our ride took us along the coast past Le Grande Rocher, and along to Saint Michel en Greves.

The sweet seaside village, with the matching houses. Only one architect in town?

And then we found a great bike path taking us inland, and up the coast. The trail was called the Moulin trail (windmill), but we didn't see any. How could there be a windmill in such dense woods? We asked some hikers, they said we had already gone by them, who knows?

There were also some very cute houses on this trail, as so many lovely flowers lining it.

Hilly days seem to be our theme right now. We did some good climbs, and good descents making our way towards Lannion. After one very long descent we came to the bridge and... you guessed it... Route Barree. We actually had been warned that the bridge on the way to Lannion might be out, but we didn't know which one. As luck would have it, we found it.

There was one stone house near this old bridge and the owner of the house came to help us, in his wooden clogs and working wool vest ❤️.  He explained the bridge had been damaged by a large tractor that was too heavy for it ("the french" he said "we don't obey the signs. The sign says 3.2 tonnes only"), and now there was a "deviation" as they repaired it. He could at least assure us that the detour was not really much more milage, just a different route, so up up up we went and around the broken bridge. There was a lovely chapel at the top, so that was a nice little prize. And our pain au chocolat from the Boulangerie Truck was a welcome break at the top.

From here the ride into Lannion was another big descent (these towns on rivers 😳) but it was fine, and the city of Lannion was quite impressive. The shops were all open and the cobblestone streets were pretty.

The Monestary of Saint Anne was impressive. I did not get a good shot so I looked one up. From Google.

More riding. More little towns and churches. More coastal views. More pretty flowers.

We always look for a table in the shade for lunch. Today the cycling Gods provided us with this fun find on the side of the road.

And even one reminder of home along the way...

Montreal! Only 5,136 kms away...

We are camping tonight in Tourony. Between Tregestel and Perros-Guirec.

We have a sheltered little plot, with a view (over the hedge) to the water. We set up, got groceries and had showers all before the rain started. And we are comfortably in our tent, using our Thermarest chairs and enjoying some local specialty items...

Artichoke dip (much more enjoyable now that I have seen them growing!)

And butter flavoured chips.
Yes. Butter + Chips.
Yes.

Thirteen days of cycling done

Thanks for reading, thanks for commenting. We love hearing from you.

  1. Seems like the weather was a bit better … but still some rain! Uggg🌧️🌧️. Not sure what Marc is doing in that pic- he looks like he’s up to something though! Am amazed at the constant re-routing and closed trails out in the middle of nowhere- and you’re so well travelled to be able to just pivot ( okay- you don’t really have a choice but still….). Still digging the artichoke fields. Until tomorrow ) your today really- Roll On!
