June 16 - Day 12 - Tour de Bretagne

Happy Father's Day

The rain ended early, before 6 am, so that made for a very nice morning, breakfast at a picnic table near the pool and bar, and an interesting conversation with our German neighbors who were in a custom Chevy van - very impressive, with a popped up roof and wide tires. A little like this one, but sadly no Scooby or Shaggy, but a very nice couple.

We enjoyed lots of rural roads lined with crops (we saw so many more fields of artichokes!). Fields of onions on both sides of Marc here:

We followed the route to Morlaix.

There are many hikers here. There is a hiking trail all the way around Brittany, and we see many groups and individuals along our way. Today there were 6 hikers hiking up a road as we were coming down. When they saw us they got into single file on the side of the road (I was not quite sure what was going on?) and as we passed, they shouted and cheered and raised their hands in the air: "Allez! Allez! Allez! As if we were in the Tour de France. 🤣🤣🤣 Made my day.

In Morlaix we knew there was a viaduct but we had no idea how impressive it would be.

So many more cyclists on the road today. It is Sunday, and not raining, so all the local cyclists are enjoying the roads too. Fun to have so much company climbing the hills (except when they whiz by😉).

Also being Sunday not much was open. And when we finally reached Morlaix the Boulangerie was fully sold out.  What to do?

You guessed it! A Creperie. What a treat. Our fellow patrons were all British, all cyclists, and all heading for the Roscoff ferry.

Good thing we found food because the climb out of there was a tough one! (Red arrow is our lunch stop).

This is me coming up a big hill. Yes, I am moving very slowly.

More rollers all afternoon and some pretty houses and random gates, and absolutely stunning hydrangeas!

We pulled into our campground, after a long descent to the beach, Plage Saint Efflam. We made such good time today we enjoyed a (cold and windy) walk on the beach before dinner.

A tiny crab.

Tonight we had time to relax and do a cheers to Father's Day!

The weather has improved today and we are enjoying the evening calm and the symphony of birds.

Here's to another great day in Brittany.

  1. The last few days the mileage has not been that much but the elevation is grinding. You have to keep your head in the game and enjoy the climbing especially in inclement weather. That's cycling!

  2. Love the self comment. The graphic of the elevation is very powerful. Clearly the jig takes some time for sunny weather. Don’t get into any vans with strangers. Roll on…
