The Cornell team has left, the ski rack is empty and the chalet is quiet. I miss them a little.
But the trails are perfect again, and when I skied along the 35 trail I could hear the dogs howling, such a great sound. They had just finished a run, and were just calming down, standing on their houses.
One day we will have to come in the summer months, to enjoy a picnic. Campsites with picnic tables are such a treat.
I could hear a woodpecker, but she was hiding. I did witness 3 squirrels chasing each other around a tree. It is so fun to be on such quiet trails when the locals come out to say hello.
Tonight we shared a meal at the Radio Cafe with my dear friend Diane and her husband Robert. We worked together at Jumpstart years ago, and have been friends ever since. She is a gem.
Seven great days of skiing. And seven days to go.
Trail songs for today.
Simon and Garfunkel, hopefully won't be insulted.
A winter's day
In a cold and bright new year.
I am alone,
Gazing from the trail tracks,
To the forest calm,
On the freshly fallen silent shroud of snow,
I am a rock.
I am an island...
