Scotland 2025 - Sept 22 - The Skye Trail

There is a Skye Trail. It starts just outside our hotel here in Broadford, at this bridge.

The plan today was to end our hike here, so we got a taxi transfer to our start point, a random spot on a one lane road, while the cows watched.

We started our journey here and headed to the western coast.

Stunning views of the Cuillin mountains - here you see the Black Cuillins behind me.

And the sea, this inlet named Loch Slapin.

We started at kilometer 17,  and were heading back to kilometer 0, so we passed a few hikers just setting out, Day one for them, clean packs, smiles and energy. This trail is not as "well- traveled" as the West Highland Way, but a lovely hike.

We did not get any rain today 😁 but still the paths were wet and muddy.

And it wasn't just puddles we had to watch out for - poop! And lots of it.

Along the coast we went, with a few stops to speak to the goats and take in the views.

What a beautiful calm day. The sounds of water falling from the hills above, and the quiet ocean to look out on.

We had a few stops, the weather let us take photos, eat snacks and rest.

Rounding the coast line from Loch Slapin to Loch Eishort and the views just kept overwhelming us.

Our lunch stop was on a log on the beach, with a waterfall behind us. We watched a few sea birds hunting and had a raven fly over with a lot to say, but otherwise no other wildlife.

As the coastline turned us into a bay, we found the ruins of a community, long gone. Boreraig, according to Google.

Long stone fences, portions of walls, and paths. How long have these stones remained here, with no cement to hold them in place?  They are profoundly impressive.

We climbed our way out of the bay (Loch Eishort) and through the inland path back to our hotel.

We are staying at the Broadford Hotel, the birthplace of Drambuie. Who knew?

We finished the day with a celebratory pizza and beer feast and will (once again) be happy for our comfy beds and some rest.
