Day 30 - June 3 - Munich - We Made It!

We made it.

Last night of camping went well. All the rain that was predicted stayed away.

And we got to order our bakery order again! And yes we spoiled ourselves with a DONUT for this morning.  Look at the cute note we got too

And in true Canadian fashion, a coffee and a donut to start the day.

It was very fun to finally see MUNICH on the signs!!

And we just quietly enjoyed the paths and the forests today, and we were both pondering all we have learned and all we have seen and those we have met over our last 30 days. What a wonderful adventure we have had.

We followed streams and railways today.

And some of the forests were so dark - black forest perhaps!

We enjoyed yet another salami sandwich, on a bench in the shade. I think we will actually miss this way of life, way of lunch.

And as we got closer to Munich the mountains faded away.

And then we got closer to the city.

And we found the English Garden and we sat and celebrated.

We are once again lucky to have a place to stay tonight. What a journey.

Now we will relax, and explore Munich and pack up our bikes.

Day 29 - June 2 - Camping Angels

It rained last night. Quite a lot. There was a brief break at about 6:45 am, I dashed from the tent and picked up our bread order.

Seriously. At our campground we got to order bread yesterday, just fill in the form, and it magically appears in your little red semal bag the next morning.  Photo above of the 30 bags, one for each campsite.

But before I got back to the tent it was pouring again. 😟

Rain is a bummer in the morning when you camp. Makes breakfast and packing up much less fun.

But then came a voice outside our tent. Our neighbor was there, asking if we wanted coffee or tea. Camping Angels exist! There they are:
She asked us for our cups. Our empty cold camping mugs were handed over, and voila, they came back full of hot coffee and tea!  And with our fresh bread, breakfast was served!

Not that that wasn't enough to make our day, but then, the sun came out. So we enjoyed our breakfast OUTSIDE and enjoyed the amazing view.

It was a great start to our day.  The kindness of strangers.  The joy of a cup of coffee and fresh bread.  Life is good.

And then we packed up and said goodbye to our second last night of camping in Germany.  A quick stop at the local grocer for lunch supplies.

And then we were off, following our Ride with GPS route, which has been amazing. In these towns, where the bike path crosses a driveway or road, the whole thing is painted RED. Great for cyclists and drivers. Love it
While the Alps continued to fade into foothills, the views were still stunning and the bike paths were fantastic, fully paved paths alongside roads and through woods and fields.

Very cute little villages all along the way. Only a few kilometers apart.

Open roads with very little traffic.

And the small towns are close. Each one we leave the signs tell you where the next town is (not far)

We arrive at Kaiser Camping and enjoy a swim in a cold outside pool, and a warm shower. And happy hour. Of course.
Cheers to Nik and Sienna's birthday today!!

It is a very pretty place here on our evening walk, and quick cycle into the village pizzeria for salad and pasta.

Our last night of camping in a very big Campground where some of the trailers are so permanent they have their own gardens and landscaping.

Tomorrow. Munich. Hard to believe.

Day 28 - June 1 - Leaving Saltzburg

We found a beautiful route out of Saltzburg that did not involve any crazy big climbs.

The path was pretty along a river with a great bridge for bikes under the highway bridge, and an amazing good bye view of Saltzburg.

We cycled all day in sunshine as the Alps stayed on the horizon, but seemed to be moving away.

We were in Germany before we even realized. The car license plates say D, the house and villages are not as neat and tidy and orderly, and the bike path signs are simple and to the point.

Bicycle. This way. One green arrow. That's all you need. Cows...?

We made this route last night, to get to a campground. We were not sure what to expect, but it was stunning.

And we managed to find a campground with beer in the vending machine! Cheers to camping in Germany!
