Our day started with breakfast in the pub at Drover Inn, complete with bagged lunch pick up at the door. This place is designed for hikers. Luggage drop off and we were off.
The weather welcomed us to Scotland. Misty rain and 11 degrees.
The trail was beautiful.
The weather was ever changing - jackets on, jackets off.
Muddy sections and mountain streams but (almost) always a large rock or two to play hopscotch on and keep your feet dry. Ok, to be honest my feet were completely soaked before noon.
There were quite a number of hikers. It is a popular pass for sure, and we got to know the people around us and we seemed to be playing leap frog on who was a walking and who was stopping to take a photo.
We even faced some obstacles today.
Scottish sheep dotted the hills.
Ancient rock walls with a mossy cover, segmented the hills, we saw very few homes or farms.
Some hills were treeless while others were dense forest. Evidence of logging was ever present as was reforestation efforts.
The signs said to watch for the red squirrels, and that they love the fungi. We saw many more mushrooms than squirrels.
We followed the river and the highway and made our way to Crianlarich.
A warm (and dry) welcome at our B&B. We made it before our luggage but we were shown to our room where the kettle and warm beverage choices were welcomed. The luggage showed up before 4pm and we were warm and dry and comfortable in no time. Radiators are wonderful after a rainy day in the trail - we should get some for our tent 😉.
Dinner at the local hotel restaurant and a toast to all those who we love, and to our health and our happiness to be here together. We understand how fortunate we are.
Tomorrow is a big day.
Adam: Looks like beautiful hiking! Enjoy!
