Learning about the making of olive oil sounded like a good idea. We headed into the wind towards L'Oulibo, an oil mill that tells the "Olive Tree Odyssey".
Did I mention the wind?
Much of the ride was on lovely bike paths and quiet roads, poppies and vineyards. And wind.
The roads got a little busy so we rerouted through an olive grove.
With puddles. And wind.
And Marc took a rock and a wind gust in a bad combination and broke a spoke on his back wheel.
We also arrived just as the Olive Oil place was closing for a two hour lunch.
So we broke out our picnic and sat in the olive trees to think things through.
And that's when we remembered. Marc is allergic to olive pollen. Did I mention it was windy??
Broken spoke + closed shop + allergies = Return to town to find a bike shop!
The ride out was into the wind... Meaning ... The ride home was much faster and easier.
Happy to say the bike shop right in our neighborhood fixed the spoke and we had extra time for a walk and getting organized for tomorrow as we leave our air bnb and take the night train to Paris - Normandy.
The park near our house is in honour of those who gave their lives during WWII serving in the French Resistance. Lovely trees and a solemn but imposing monument.
Sleep well and Bon voyage le matin! Had fun catching up on stage one blogs! Enjoy the pains au chocolat to come :).
ReplyDeleteWhew - a day of challenges. Glad it ended on a good note though. Spokes intact ready to go!
ReplyDeleteOmg allergic to olive pollen ops, abort abort return to base !!! Glad everything worked out !!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite the day!! To tomorrow’s new adventures!! Enjoy:)
ReplyDeleteWow- I remember olive oil presses and how it was supposed to be fascinating- but not really and the fresh oil was so bitter it was not ideal…. But the olive groves are cool. It’s days like this that make you such troopers to deal with 70km hr winds, the allergy, and the spoke! Holy sh!t- that’s a memorable day!
ReplyDeleteYa I'm a bit worried about the spoke thing. I should have been more aggressive about it in the off season. Carry on for now!
DeleteWhew, 70km winds reminds us of the Cabot trail - not fun at all.
