2025 Spain Day 3 - Girona

We made it to Girona.

We are staying in a lovely, central B&B owned by Johnny. He is a former Spanish professional cyclist, so no need to sneak our bikes in!

Waking up to 8° Celsius in the tent this morning was a bit of a shock.  I mean not as bad a shock as waking up to see the Toronto Maple Leafs lost 6-1 at home in game 5. Was anyone happy this morning?

While the most direct route to Girona was along a service road to the main highway, Marc used a route from the local bike shop, Eat, Sleep, Cycle and we found ourselves on quiet roads

with beautiful views of the Pyrenees.

Of course we also found the little local tricks like, what does this sign mean?

Oh, it means another stream to ford...

But then some more beauty.

Marc definitely made the ride here much more enjoyable. Some rolling hills, some dirt roads, some churches, and some dogs.

And then just as we got into the busy downtown of Girona, Marc got the first flat of the tour.  We found an alleyway and got to work.

Marc's volunteering at Bike Pirates has enabled him to change a tire faster than ... Well pretty fast, let's just say.

We arrived

Our afternoon was spent exploring Girona.

There are so many cyclists here, impressive (expensive) road bikes everywhere and a lot of cool gear.

Right now there is a flower festival on so the city is hopping! And there are flower art installations everywhere.

On this road all of the schools have created an installation. Some were very creative.

Even the steps to the Cathedral are flower art.

There is an ancient wall around the old section of Girona. Dating back to the 1st century - seriously old!  We decided to walk the wall.  It is high, which means steps. A lot of steps with tired legs with sunny skies, it was an effort.

Of course the old walls make for some very nice views.

Dinner out and a walk around the cobblestoned streets, the bridges, and the gelato shop.  Doesn't get much better.

The first short stage of our 2025 tour will end tomorrow as we leave Spain and head to Narbonne France.

adios españa!

Cheers
